That all depends on what dessert is. If it's seriously chocolate and not too horribly rich, no sharing. Otherwise, I'll negotiate.
About dinner not being complete without dessert: my mom always served dessert after the evening meal. So, I always have dessert--it's like the epilogue to a great story. Or sometimes, it's the last, most wonderful act of the experience that is called dinner.
The desserts Mom made, back in the 60s:
-Boston Cream Pie (Betty Crocker yellow cake mix, Jello vanilla pudding, and Jiffy chocolate frosting)
- Fruit Jello (grape, strawberry, cherry, or orange), cut into 1/2" cubes
- Jello chocolate pudding
- Junket (a bizarre sort of custard made with rennet--very strange texture, kind of slimy-icky)
- Tapioca pudding
- Bananas and sour cream, with a tablespoon of sugar
- Homemade blintzes
- Girl Scout Mint Cookie Pie
