All of you frustrated restaurant reviewers; there is a website where you can try out your reviewing talents. www.yelp.com

The new movie "Jules & Julia" is about a woman who made every recipe in Julia Child's book "The Art of French Cooking" (524 recipes in one year) and blogged about it. That turned into a book, and now is wound into a film.

Do you think blogging can be a stepping stone to a book?

Let's bring this group back to action in 2009 :)
I often wondered what it would be like to be a restaurant reviewer.
Eat out and write about food, service, ambiance, flavor, value of money spent. Hey, I do this with family and friends. Now how do I get paid for doing this, hmmmmm.

As a personal friend of Michael Wheeler, who once tried to teach me how to cook, I am thrilled with this new option to write about food and wine. My most recent experience was in Newburyport, MA where I had the best Margarita at Agave, 50 State Street and was served by Ben who could not have been nicer. Then I went to David's Tavern and had more good food and listened to a band that I knew. So when you go to Newburyport you can try these 2 spots and know it will be a wonderful experience. Hello, I always enjoyed the late Elizabeth David's food writing, particularly in her book An Omelette and a Glass of Wine.

I enjoy Mark Bittman's column in the NYTimes, although I think I've only tried one of his recipes (a bread recipe that involves 12-18 hours of letting the bread rise--which creates an amazing texture and flavor, considering how few ingredients there are). I also always liked Molly O'Neill's writing, although I haven't kept up with what she's doing these days.
